Kritota Willberg

Doug Kellar

Doug offers his knowledge based on his own studies, experience and practice. He began with the study of philosophy at Georgetown University, and later began the practice of yoga in 1981 while completing his Master's Degree in Philosophy at Fordham University.

At that time Doug was teaching college-level philosophy courses at Fordham when he met the renowned meditation master, Swami Muktananda. Through his example and teaching Doug saw that any pursuit of wisdom cannot be purely intellectual, but must be grounded in practice and experience.

He began with the practice of meditation, and was introduced to hatha yoga in 1985. In 1986 Doug traveled to India to spend the next seven years there studying yoga in all its aspects in Gurudev Siddha Peeth, the ashram and international retreat center for learning yoga and meditation established by Swami Muktananda in the countryside outside of Bombay. By 1989 he began teaching in the ashram after meeting John Friend. Upon his return from India, Doug trained intensively with John. Doug now travels nationally and internationally offering workshops and teacher trainings.

JJ Gormley

JJ Gormley

JJ is the founder and director of the Sun & Moon Yoga Studios in Virginia. She began her yoga studies in 1979 and began teaching in 1989. She has received hatha yoga teaching certificates from White Lotus Foundation and Anusara Yoga. JJ is on the 500-hour registry of the Yoga Alliance. She has studied many styles of hatha yoga and loves to share what she likes best from each.

JJ has a warm, non-judgmental style that includes an element of fun while giving her students complete permission to be where they are. She encourages students to honor their own body and understand their differences and yet challenges them to extend their "edge."

She considers herself a "permission-giver," not only giving students permission to be where they are in any given yoga pose, but to accept and honor that place. She believes one must be happy where they are before they can be happy moving on. Otherwise, you’re always chasing a dream.

Any discipline that is practiced with intent and consistency will bear its fruit. Yoga is no different. Attention to the moral precepts, to the health of the body, to silence, to action, to our unique responses in each of these things cannot leave us unmoved or unchanged. Anything that is refined and refined becomes more pure. Yoga and its teachings create such purity. This is not to say that difficulty and disturbance do not arise. They will and do. The critical choice for the practitioner is this: Will we continue to be opened by these disturbances and stay attentive and present as the filters of the practice further clarify the entire being?
